Workers AI usage is measured in neurons, a unit that normalises across model types so text generation, embeddings and image models share one meter. Every account receives 10,000 neurons per day at no charge, and usage beyond that is billed per million neurons. The daily allocation resets rather than accumulating, so unused capacity does not carry forward.
The conversion from tokens to neurons differs per model and is published per model, so a small model can be an order of magnitude cheaper per token than a large one for the same task. On a Free plan account, exceeding the daily allocation returns an error instead of billing, which is the usual explanation for a demo that works in the morning and fails in the afternoon. Track consumption in the dashboard analytics rather than by counting tokens client side.
